Rob Woodley | GM / Sergeant ONZM

Having served at the helm for over a decade now, Rob firmly believes he was born to do this job, "I was born to serve my fellow man and be a part of something that is genuinely changing young lives for the better and restoring broken families' says Rob. "I love it, live it, and dream about it. Genesis fulfils my personal purpose in my working life and stretches me to the limit in terms of my abilities and strengths. Our strategic heartbeat resonates with me as a person". In addition to being GM of the Trust, Rob is a sworn police officer holding the rank of Sergeant. Rob was awarded an ONZM is for services to New Zealand Police and youth in 2015.

Rob began his policing career in 1995 as a Constable at the Mangere Police Station. A pursuit of career options away from enforcement into preventative initiatives culminated in him being assigned as 'project manager' of the Youth-at-Risk Project in 2001; this was the precursor of 'Genesis Youth Project – New beginnings' in 2002 before evolving into a community partnership in 2004 and renamed the 'Mangere Genesis Youth Project Trust'.

In July 2013 Turei moved from Genesis HQ (Mangere) to our Papakura office to lead the Counties Manukau South team. Turei has been with Genesis since 2004 initially as a police-employed Youth/Social worker and since 2009 has been a vital part of the Genesis management team. He is currently completing his Bachelor of Social Work degree but Turei's principal qualification for helping youth-at-risk is one of personal experience in turning his own life around from being at-risk himself. "I know young people today are looking for two things: love and acceptance! How do I know this? – because those are the two things I was looking for ........." comments Turei.

"Genesis' role in the community is to work in partnership with all agencies striving to get the best outcomes for all our clients and families. Our aim is to go over and above as if these were our own children and families".

Turei has a natural touch and affinity for youth and engages with them in numerous ways beyond his role with Genesis, this includes: the Mangere Youth Providers Network; coaching rugby and touch-rugby; leading Youth Development Centres in Otara and Mangere; leading and training the Destiny Church Youth Performing Arts Programme; and being MC/presenter for major youth events in the South Auckland area.

"I provide motivation, energy and tenacity that can conquer and overcome their circumstances and situations together as a family. Everyone is "Born for Greatness" and with Genesis Youth Trust I have the opportunity to do this". Emil loves his job and is happily married with 6 gorgeous children.
